Vintage Seahawk Mascot Head Stolen from UNC Wilmington's Randall Library
Tuesday, April 28, 2009
A vintage Seahawk mascot head was stolen from Randall Library at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. While it is uncertain exactly when the item was stolen, it likely occurred somewhere between March 27 and April 17, 2009. The incident is being investigated as a larceny by UNCW Police.
Part of an older mascot's costume, the Seahawk head is 14 inches tall, 17 inches long and 12 inches wide, not including the beak, which is 5.3 inches long and 10.2 inches wide. The top and front of the head are navy blue. The sides are white matting, and the beak consists of plastic covered with a thin layer of yellow foam. The head's colors predate the current use of teal as UNCW's primary color. The monetary value of this item is undetermined; however, it is irreplaceable because of its historical significance and uniqueness.
Anyone with information regarding this theft is asked to call UNCW Police at 910.962.3184, or anonymously at 962.TIPS.
