Friday, July 17, 2009

The University of North Carolina Wilmington community is truly saddened by the loss of dedicated alumnus and friend Robert Ridgely Dobo Sr. '50, who died July 14. One of the UNCW science buildings on campus, Dobo Hall, is named for him and his brother Gabriel William Dobo '51 in honor of their support of their alma mater.

"Bob Dobo will always be a special part of the UNCW family," Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo said. "His love for this university was limitless. Bob's legacy lives on in his sincere commitment to helping UNCW provide students with the most powerful learning experiences possible. Bob often spoke of the opportunities Wilmington College gave him when he was a young man, and he was very determined to give those opportunities back to new generations of students at UNCW. He will be greatly missed."

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, July 17 at the Oleander Gardens Memorial Cemetery in Wilmington. (Read his obituary here.)
