International Students to Compete In World Games at UNC Wilmington Aug. 17

Thursday, August 13, 2009

Dizzy bat races, toilet paper relays and water balloon tosses will help international students at the University of North Carolina Wilmington acclimate to life on an American college campus 4 p.m., Monday, Aug. 17. Approximately 70 students from 21 different countries will participate in the first UNC Wilmington World Games on the UNCW softball intramural field behind the Student Recreation Center.

In Olympic style, students will work together in teams to compete for the World Games gold medal. Winners will be announced at the concluding ceremony of the hour-long event.

New incoming UNCW international students hail from Kazakhstan, Ecuador, Finland and other countries. Sponsored by the Office of International Programs, the games will be the grand finale of a two day special orientation session for international students focused on aiding participants with their transition to America.

Media are invited to interview event participants and to capture photo/video of international students engaged in games.
