High School Students Learn to Teach Diversity, Technology at UNC Wilmington Sept. 30

Monday, September 28, 2009

The University of North Carolina Wilmington's Watson School of Education will host the second Teachers of Tomorrow Day from 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 30 in the Education Building. The event is designed to increase student interest in teaching as a profession, especially in the areas of diversity and technology.

Thirty students from the Jacksonville High School Teacher Cadet Program will be attending. Students in Jacksonville, N.C. are of special interest because the projected military population boom in that area will demand an increase in qualified teachers.

Event participants will attend faculty-led, hands-on professional development workshops on topics including incorporating diversity, virtual technology, connecting globally and using cameras in the classroom. Prime visual opps will be noon - 1:30 p.m. Cadets will also learn about UNCW, the admission process, financial aid opportunities and scholarships. This event is a partnership with the N.C. Association of Educators.

Interviews with faculty members and cadets are available upon request.
