TEST of UNCW Alert Emergency Notification Systems Monday, Sept. 14 at Noon

Thursday, September 10, 2009

The University of North Carolina Wilmington will conduct a test of the UNCW Alert emergency notification systems on Monday, Sept. 14, 2009 at noon. These systems will be tested on a periodic basis to make sure that they are working properly in the event of an actual emergency on campus. The test will include, but is not limited to, the following emergency notification tools:

• Seahawk Warning Siren System
• Emergency Information Hotline, 910.962.3991 or 888.657.5751
• Cable TV interrupt in the residence halls and other campus buildings
• E-mail notification to all campus e-mails
• Text and voice messages to cell phone numbers that have been registered through SeaPort
• UNCW Web site updates

The full volume test of the siren system will last approximately 4 to 5 minutes. UNCW students, faculty, staff and visitors are not required to take action when the siren is sounded at this time. During an actual emergency when the siren sounds, the campus community should immediately take shelter and then monitor the UNCW homepage, www.uncw.edu/alert, the Emergency Information Hotline at 888.657.5751, alert e-mails, voice and text messages, and local media for information.

Test text messages, for those who have registered their cell phone numbers, will come with the header UNCW Alert. To register your cell phone number for UNCW Alert emergency notification, log into SeaPort and click "Update Your Cell Phone Number." Signing up takes less than 30 seconds and the information provided is kept confidential. It will be used only for emergency notification.
