UNC Wilmington Students in Boats to Sweep Greenfield Lake of Litter Sept. 26

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

As part of the annual Big Sweep, students from the University of North Carolina Wilmington will clean Greenfield Lake while in paddleboats and kayaks 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26.

Nearly 100 volunteers on sea and land will be clearing harmful waste in and around Greenfield Lake in partnership with Cape Fear River Watch and other organizations. Big Sweep is a national initiative to promote sustainability by cleaning waterways and their watershed areas. UNC Wilmington volunteers will begin at the paddle boat station.

The clean-up is one of many bi-monthly Saturday Seahawk Surge service opportunities facilitated by the UNC Wilmington Center for Leadership Education Service (CLES) office for students, faculty and staff.

Media are invited to capture sweeps of the lake area and interviews with student volunteers.
