Nearly 700 undergraduate students from across North Carolina will present research projects Saturday, Nov. 21 at the fifth annual State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium (SNCURCS). The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Fisher Student Center and Fisher University Union on the University of North Carolina Wilmington campus.SNCURCS is a showcase of multidisciplinary undergraduate research and scholarship from all 53 public and private colleges and universities, as well as 58 community colleges, in North Carolina. It is designed to recognize the discovery-, creativity- and inquiry-based scholarship and entrepreneurial talents of undergraduate students from across the state.
Throughout the day, students will showcase their research and scholarship through oral presentations, poster presentations, creative performances and exhibitions. The opening session for the symposium, featuring a welcome from Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo and UNCW Provost Cathy Barlow, will take place in the Burney Center at 9:30 a.m.
In past years, SNCURCS was hosted by NC State University (2005 and 2006), UNC Greensboro (2007) and Appalachian State University (2008). The symposium at UNCW is being hosted by the Center for the Support of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships and the Honors Scholars Program. To promote access to the symposium and encourage participation, SNCURCS is free to student registrants. Numerous co-sponsors and donors from higher education and the corporate world make the event possible each year.
