Veteran's Day Celebration, Military Reception at UNC Wilmington Nov. 11

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

The public and the media are invited to join the University of North Carolina Wilmington's Veteran's Day Ceremony 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 11 in the Burney Center Ballroom.

Members of the military will gather together in full uniform as the clock tower as chimes "the eleventh hour" to initiate a moment of silence. Chris Ackerman and the UNC Wilmington Trumpet Studio will perform in honor of our American military heroes. Bill Ayers, assistant a professor of social work, will speak about the significance of Veteran's Day. Immediately follows the ceremony, media will have an opportunity to explore the new campus veteran's lounge and interview veterans at a military reception in the Fisher Student Center.

The ceremony is sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, the Student Veteran's Organization and the Military Task Force. UNCW's variety of support, service and educational programs for the military earned the university a spot on G.I. Jobs magazine's 2010 list of Military Friendly Schools. In the past year, UNCW has seen a significant rise in the number of military veterans applying for admission.
