200 Seniors to Break It Down On The Dance Floor With UNCW Students Feb. 10
Wednesday, January 27, 2010
Generation gaps will go out the door this Valentine's Day season when more than 200 senior adults and 300 student volunteers dance the jitterbug and cha-cha slide together at the 16th annual University of North Carolina Wilmington Young At Heart Social. From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10., participants and volunteers will ditch their jeans and t-shirts for their Sunday best in the UNC Wilmington Burney Center. This free event is open to all seniors in the Cape Fear area.Individuals are requested, but not required, to RSVP for the social by calling 910.962.3877. Together, seniors and students will enjoy dancing, socializing and other activities such as free raffle drawings, during a time of year when many find themselves lonely. The evening's music will include something for everyone: big band, swing and other old favorites from the Dusty Long Band, and recent dance hits.
More than 40 senior residences and community care centers are expected to attend. Student leaders of the UNCW Center for Leadership Education and Service (CLES) organize this annual event. Refreshments will be served. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and participants are encouraged to dress in semi-formal attire. Parking for the Young at Heart Social is available in lot M near the UNCW field house.
Media are encouraged to promote and cover this event, and/or to capture set up beginning at 3 p.m. Feb. 10. Interviews with seniors and students will be available.
