Boseman Gallery Presents "Where the Lines Cross," Reception on Jan. 20

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

The UNC Wilmington Ann Flack Boseman Gallery presents “Where the Lines Cross,” a compilation of work from student artists, through Feb. 4. A free reception for the artists will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20.

The project called for artists to submit work reflective of their personal artistic styles and allowed them to use any media they desired. The student artists used materials ranging from newspaper to bass strings.  The individual pieces were merged to create the sculpture. The gallery has been transformed into a large scale sculpture with the installation of site-specific, three-dimensional work - breaking down barriers between fields of design.

Installation coordinator and Boseman Gallery intern Meredith Connelly says, “This concept was intriguing because I had to design an installation based off of the forms submitted and reflective of all the artists’ work, instead of designing an installation for the space that is reflective of my personal artistic style and concepts. It was as if I were solving a visual puzzle. While designing, my goal was to find connections between the submitted forms. By finding these connections, I was able to suspend the forms and position them so that they created a visual relationship between one another.”

Featured artists include Diana Brenson, Tricia Chacon, Kristen Cheshire, Meredith Connelly, Danielle Dewar, Stella Duplass, Sean Klein, Elizabeth McAdams, Randy Seller, Maggie Sumney, Alexandra Widman and Anne Marie Wilson.

The gallery is located in the Fisher University Union. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday; closed Sunday.
