UNC Wilmington's Randall Library Showcases Images of Iraq from Wounded Soldier

Monday, January 04, 2010

The University of North Carolina Wilmington's Randall Library will showcase the photography of Iraq War veteran Sgt. Eric Edmundson during the month of January, with an opening ceremony Saturday, Jan. 9. The exhibit of Edmundson's "A Concrete of Images: Back From Iraq" collects photographs of civilian and military life in Iraq captured during the wounded veteran's tour of duty.

Edmundson's photography has been on display at the National Veterans Art Museum in Chicago. A traveling exhibit of his photos has been shown at the Pentagon, the Russell Senate Building and at VA hospitals and colleges across the nation.

Edmundson was severely wounded while on tour in Iraq when an improvised explosive device destroyed the vehicle he was driving on Oct. 2, 2005. He will be present at the exhibit opening and will give remarks with the assistance of a computerized device. He lives in New Bern with his wife and young daughter. Edmundson's sister, Anna Frese, is a UNCW alumna with a bachelor's degree in social work. Since her brother was wounded, she has devoted countless hours working with and advocating for him and other wounded veterans.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Sherman Hayes gallery in UNC Wilmington's Randall Library on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 1:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend. The exhibit will be displayed through Sunday, January 31.

The exhibit is sponsored by the Strengths Collaborative of the UNCW Department of Social Work.
