Statewide Food Drive at UNCW to Lend a Helping Hand Feb. 8 -12
Tuesday, February 09, 2010
Area residents are encouraged to open their cabinets and grab a can to help the University of North Carolina Wilmington collect items for a statewide food drive Feb.8 - 12. Visual opportunities for the media, including the organizing/collecting of donations and interviews with volunteers, will be available in the Warwick Center at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, the UNC Staff Assembly Day of Service.
All food items collected will be distributed throughout Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover and Pender counties by the Food Bank of Eastern and Central N.C. Desired donations include non-perishable items such as canned vegetables, spaghetti sauce and cooking oil.
The UNC Wilmington's food collection is part of a larger statewide drive facilitated by the University of North Carolina's Staff Assembly. The campus and community can drop off items in designated departments/office and the Financial Aid and Student Accounts offices in Warwick Center before 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12.
The UNC Staff Assembly is the elected body of representatives of the staff of the 17 campuses of the UNC System and other state entities. The group aims to improve communications, understanding and morale throughout their respective communities, and to increase efficiency and productivity in campus operations. The UNCW Staff Senate serves the university, the chancellor and senior officers as an advisor on a wide range of issues concerning the UNCW staff.
