UNC Wilmington Scholarships Benefit April 9 to Feature Classical and Jazz Performances by Faculty
Wednesday, March 31, 2010
The University of North Carolina Wilmington's Department of Music presents a special evening of faculty chamber ensembles at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 9 in Beckwith Recital Hall. All proceeds from the event will go toward UNCW music scholarships. A dessert reception in the Cultural Arts Building lobby will follow the performances. The concert will feature unique classical and jazz performances by members of the music faculty – voice, saxophone and guitar; two pianos, eight hands; and string, woodwind and voice pairings – of works by Bach, Villa-Lobos, Brahms, Khatchaturian and Parker. Numerous members of UNCW's music faculty will perform.
"Scholarships are critical to encouraging high-achieving students to attend UNCW and study in the Department of Music," said Cathy Albergo, department chair. "The faculty wants to encourage the greater Wilmington community to get involved in supporting music scholarships; this benefit concert is a fun way to do that. We hope to offer everyone an evening of unusual performances that they won't find elsewhere."
Tickets to the benefit are available at Kenan Auditorium Box Office: 910.962.3500 or 800.732.3643. $30 includes concert and reception.
