Conditions Hazardous for Fires: Use Extra Caution

Monday, April 05, 2010

In recent days, a small fire on campus resulted when cigarette butts were thrown into pine straw used for landscaping. There have also been several other fires throughout the community resulting from dry conditions, high winds and careless disposal of smoking materials.

Given these conditions, the campus community and visitors are asked to take extra care to prevent fires. This includes always placing cigarette butts in appropriate containers, not on the ground where they can ignite dry brush. For more information about this or other fire safety issues, contact Stan Harts or Danny Edens in UNCW's Office of Environmental Health and Safety at 962-3057.
