UNC Wilmington to Open Dedicated Facility for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Sept. 1

After several years of steady growth and community involvement, the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) will open a dedicated facility for its programs at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1. OLLI, which began in 2005 with a grant from the Bernard Osher Foundation, offers educational opportunities to the 50+ community in Wilmington and the surrounding areas. Since its inception, it has grown from 100 to 1,450 members, and many non-members also participate in OLLI programming.EVENT INVITE FOR MEDIA ONLY: Not open to general public; public open house scheduled for Sept. 8
WHAT: Grand Opening of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute building at UNCW
• Ribbon cutting ceremony with Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo
• Ice cream social for OLLI members
• Sneak peak at new Fall offerings and “Pathways” catalog
• 200 people expected to attend
WHEN: 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010
WHERE: 620 South College Road (formerly Swensen’s Restaurant and Kohl’s Frozen Custard)
BUILDING FEATURES:
• More than 3,200 square feet
• Large classroom for 80 people with HD projector and sound system
• Small conference room for meetings
• Offices for OLLI staff
• Ample parking and easier access for community participants
VISUAL OPPS and INTERVIEWS AVAILABLE
UNCW invites members of the public to tour the new facility, meet staff and volunteers, and learn about upcoming OLLI programs during a community Open House from 2–5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8.
