First UNCW Children's Book Is Written by Alumna – Book Signing Thursday

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

For the first time in its 63 year history, the University of North Carolina Wilmington has its very own children's book, written by none other than an alumna.

Katie White, who wrote Hello, Sammy C. Hawk! while she worked in the UNC Wilmington Office of Marketing and Communications, will sign books from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23 in the courtyard between the Fisher Student Center and Fisher Student Union. She will also sign books from noon to 3 p.m. on Seahawk Saturday, Sept. 25. White will be available for media interviews by request.

Hello, Sammy C. Hawk! is the story of the UNCW experience told through the eyes of mascot Sammy the Seahawk. This book is perfect for children or grown-up fans who want to celebrate what makes UNCW special. White, who graduated in 2009 and now lives in New York City, was part of Storytelling in the Community, a UNCW Department of Communication Studies course that coaches students on developing and performing stories in the community. She recently completed an internship with VH1 Save The Music in fundraising and development.

Hello, Sammy C. Hawk! is available exclusively at the UNCW Bookstore and the UNCW Athletics Seahawk Shop for $14.95 plus tax. The book is also available online at www.uncw.edu/bookstore and www.uncw.edu/athletics.
