UNC Wilmington Pre-Veterinary Students Offer No-Cost Rabies Clinic Sept. 18
Tuesday, September 14, 2010
The Pre-Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA) of the University of North Carolina Wilmington is organizing a no-cost rabies clinic from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18. The clinic, which will be held in Lot K at the southwest corner of Trask Coliseum, offers free rabies vaccinations for dogs, cats and ferrets.Owners are asked to bring proof of prior rabies vaccination, such as a rabies certificate or veterinary reminder to receive a three-year shot. The rabies tag alone is insufficient proof of previous vaccination.
The clinic is provided as a service to pet-owning students, faculty, staff and citizens in the surrounding community, and is offered in partnership with New Hanover County Animal Control Services. The event is held every September in honor of World Rabies Day, which is Sept. 28. For more information about World Rabies Day or for additional rabies information, go to www.worldrabiesday.org.
The clinic is just one example of the beneficial partnership between the PVMA and community organizations. In addition to the community partners and students, local veterinarians will volunteer their time for the clinic. Donations toward the effort are encouraged and will be accepted the day of the clinic.
