UNCW Operating on a Normal Schedule Thursday; No Concerns with On-Campus Travel

Thursday, September 30, 2010

Posted at 7 a.m. EST on Thursday, Sept. 30: UNCW is operating on a normal class schedule today. The university is monitoring the weather situation and roadways, most of which are safe to travel on. All roads on campus are open; however, use caution on Randall Road due to minor damage on the roadway. Rainfall and wind is expected to continue throughout the day in diminishing amounts. At this time, there are no concerns with on-campus travel due to weather issues.

Students who have safety concerns regarding travel to campus should contact their instructors. Faculty are asked to exercise leniency with regard to attendance policies where travel safety issues are involved. The Adverse Weather Policy remains in effect for faculty and staff.

Current National Weather Service information indicates that significant rainfall will end in the Wilmington area this morning. Several watches and advisories remain in effect today:

• Wind Advisory in effect until 11 a.m.
• Tornado Watch in effect until 1 p.m.
• Flash Flood Watch in effect until 6 p.m.

As conditions warrant, status updates will be posted on the UNCW website, www.uncw.edu/alert and the UNCW Alert Emergency Information Hotline at 910.962.3991 or 888.657.5751. In the meantime, please seek updated weather information from local media. For more safety information on flooding: https://sites.google.com/site/uncwalert/flood.
