Boseman Gallery Turns Junk to Funk
Friday, October 01, 2010
Teams of student designers have begun measuring and designing the mannequins that will be part of Junk to Funk, the next exhibit at the UNCW Ann Flack Boseman Gallery. Under the direction of student curators, Erin Alemdar and Isabel Heblich, the gallery will be transformed into an eco-fashion show of student made trash-to-treasure couture inspired by No Impact Man, UNCW’s common reading program fall 2010 selection.
The exhibit celebrates the frivolous world of fashion and the environmental need to reduce our carbon footprint. UNCW is celebrating No Impact Week through Oct. 3, a challenge to the campus community to examine and reduce individual ecological footprint by taking part in a week conscious consumption.
Junk to Funk runs Oct. 14-Nov. 5. A free reception will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14 in the Boseman Gallery located on the 2nd floor of the Fisher University Union.
