Connect 2010: Senior Networking Reception Maximizes Opportunities for Graduating UNC Wilmington Students

Monday, October 18, 2010

With graduating students facing a still recovering economy and a sluggish job market, the University of North Carolina Wilmington is stepping up its efforts to help seniors make direct contact with representatives from national and regional businesses during Connect 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 19 on Hoggard Lawn.

Sponsored by the UNCW Career Center, Connect 2010 is an alternative to traditional job fairs. The focus will be on creating a professional atmosphere, more student-employer interaction and increased placement opportunities.

"The intimidation level, witnessed at previous events, will dwindle into a more relaxed and personable experience for both employers and students," explains Leslie Wright, assistant director for the UNCW Career Center.

Media are invited to take advantage of numerous visual and interview opportunities.

Prior to Connect 2010, student registrants will have the opportunity to attend a preparatory workshop that will help them learn to network and navigate during a professional reception. Students will also receive personalized business cards to exchange with employers during the event.
