Harmless Haunted Treats for At-risk Youth Served Up by UNCW Students at Annual Halloween Carnival TONIGHT

Monday, October 25, 2010

More than 300 UNCW student volunteers in costumes will dish out candy and fun to at-risk youths in the Wilmington community at the 14th annual University of North Carolina Wilmington Halloween Carnival from 5:30-8 p.m., Monday Oct. 25 in the Warwick Center. Designed as an alternative for children who may not have safe trick-or-treating opportunities, the event will include games, candy, a haunted maze and more.

NOTE: This event is NOT open to the general public, but media are invited to capture the fun.

More than 200 children in Halloween attire are expected to attend. The UNCW Center for Leadership Education and Service (CLES) sponsors the event each year and works with several area community service organizations and after-school programs to provide safe Halloween fun for local at-risk children.

Media are invited to capture set-up for the Halloween Carnival from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and/or to go live from the carnival. Interviews with participants and event coordinators are available upon request.
