Yale Prof to Discuss Mapping the Universe
Tuesday, November 16, 2010
Professor Priyamvada Natarajan, Department of Astronomy, Department of Physics, Yale University, will present a free, public lecture at 7 p.m. on Nov. 19 in DeLoach Hall room 212. Her talk,"Mapping the Universe - the Quest for Dark Matter," is sponsored by the UNCW Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography.
A recent inventory of the Universe suggests that more than 90% of all matter is composed of dark matter that does not radiate any energy in any wavelength. The presence of dark matter is inferred from the gravitational pull that it exerts on its surroundings. Natarajan will present the current status of the understanding of the dark matter and show results on the quest to map its distribution.
