Potential Severe Weather Thursday Morning

Wednesday, March 09, 2011

The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting potential severe weather to enter the Wilmington area later this evening and remain in the area through tomorrow, Thursday, March 10. One to two inches of rain are expected during the next 24 hours, along with strong wind gusts in the morning hours.

The forecasted heavy rains may cause high water in areas prone to flooding and/or localized flooding in areas adjacent to the campus. Conditions may be more hazardous for those traveling into Wilmington from outlying areas. Leave extra time to make commutes and do not attempt to drive through standing water.

Be aware of possible hazardous conditions if rains are heavy, particularly in areas prone to flooding such as the intersection of Reynolds and Cahill Dr., New Centre Drive, Seahawk Landing, Honors Hall Parking Lot and Parking Lot E. It is possible that some of these areas will be closed to traffic if heavy rain occurs. As a precaution, you may wish to relocate your vehicle from these flood prone areas.
