UNCW Students to Volunteer at Local Food Bank March 5
Friday, March 04, 2011
Students from the University of North Carolina Wilmington will voluntarily sort food at the Wilmington location of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, March 5. The project comes less than a week after UNC Wilmington donated nearly 3,323 pounds (more than 1.5 tons) of food to local food banks.
The Wilmington Food Bank, established in 1980, serves Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover and Pender counties. For every one hour worked by volunteers, 288 pounds of food are distributed. The Food Bank's more than 800 partner agencies include soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and programs for children and adults. For more information, visit www.foodbankcenc.org.
This event is one of several bimonthly UNC Wilmington Seahawk Surge service opportunities for students. Each unique Surge is chosen and organized by student leaders and facilitated by the UNCW Center for Leadership Education and Service (CLES) office.
