Children with Special Needs to Boogie at UNCW Student Council for Exceptional Students Dance

Thursday, April 14, 2011

Local children with special needs will boogie like there's no tomorrow at the 10th annual University of North Carolina Wilmington Student Council for Exceptional Students (SCEC) Spring Dance from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in the Warwick Center at UNCW.

More than 175 exceptional children from New Hanover and Brunswick county middle and high schools will dance, eat and socialize at their own personal dance party. Students will be dressed in their finest attire. For many, the dance is one of the few times during the year that they will see their friends from other schools.

The event is hosted by the UNC Wilmington SCEC, a student chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children, an international professional organization. The New Hanover County Advisory Council on the Education of Children with Special Needs is co-sponsoring the dance.

Media are invited to capture interviews and great visuals including student participants dancing with UNCW students and other volunteers to the tunes of a DJ. TV reporters are advised to bring lights, as the room will be lit for atmosphere.
