Distinguished UNC Wilmington Students to Present Research at Showcase Reception April 19
Monday, April 18, 2011
More than 140 posters highlighting innovative student research
will be on display April 18-May 2 as part of UNC Wilmington's Sixth
Annual Showcase of Undergraduate Research and Activity. A reception
will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 19 in Randall
Library, with students on hand to discuss methods and
results.
Sponsored by UNC Wilmington's Center for Support of Undergraduate
Research and Fellowships (CSURF) and the Honors Scholars Program,
the posters represent a variety of research areas in the sciences
and humanities, but will especially feature the health sciences.
Distinguished recipients of the Paul E. Hosier Fellowships and
CSURF Travel Awards will be in attendance, as well as university
and departmental honors students.
"This will be the largest showcase we have had to date," said Kate
Bruce, Director of CSURF and Honors. "UNC Wilmington is a unique
place-undergraduates are an integral part of the scientific and
creative process of inquiry here. They are partners with our
faculty who are conducting cutting-edge research."
Poster topics include "Apocalypse Maybe? Apocalyptic Texts in
Eastern and Western Religions," "Getting that Summertime Tan:
Investigating the North Carolina Tanning Facility Industry," "Fruit
and Vegetable Consumption of Elementary Students Compared to USDA
Guidelines" and "A Geographic Assessment and Change Analysis of the
Maritime Forests on the North Carolina Coast."
Media are invited to attend, and interviews can be arranged
with student presenters.
