Slightly Better Outlook Awaits Students at UNCW Internship and Job Fair April 6

Tuesday, April 05, 2011

A more positive job market outlook is predicted for students attending the annual spring University of North Carolina Wilmington Internship and Job Fair Wednesday, April 6. Recruiters from more than 50 companies are expected to attend the event from noon to 3 p.m. in the Burney Center.

Due to the previous state of the economy, the fair experienced a 57 percent decline in employer participation from 2009 to 2010. This year the number of attending recruiters is up by 20 percent.

The fair will have a professional trade show atmosphere with more color and activity than previous events.

Students will network in business attire with employers from a wide variety of industries including banking, law enforcement, technology, pharmaceutical research, media, healthcare and others.

May 2011 graduates will notice a more optimistic job outlook, with 68 percent of industries adding jobs so far this year. Among the leading fields were business and professional services, which added 78,000 jobs, health care and social services, which increased staffing by 44,000, and leisure and hospitality, which brought on 37,000 workers.

Media are invited to cover the fair and to capture interviews with participants and experts by request.
