Art Students Complete Mural Along UNCW, Hardee's Property Line

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

If you're traveling to and from the UNCW campus via the Randall Drive entrance, be sure to notice a newly created mural on the property bordering the S. College Road Hardee's restaurant. Six students from UNCW Professor Ann Conner's Intermediate and Advanced Painting course designed and completed the work during the final weeks of the spring 2011 semester.

The project came about from a desire of both UNCW and Hardee's to improve the landscaping around the area bordering the two properties. UNCW Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs Charlie Maimone met with Mayo Boddie Jr, the owner of the Hardee's restaurant. As they discussed how they could work together to clean up the property border, Boddie offered to let UNCW art students paint the wall of a shed that faces Randall Drive.

Maimone consulted with Conner, who also chairs the art and art history department. Her students Ryan Terry, Britt Harrison, Elizabeth McAdams, Megan Jesse, Allie Arce and Chad Harrell came up with three initial drawings. After consulting with Maimone and Boddie, the final design was agreed upon and the students completed the mural over the course of several days.
