Tuesday, June 21, 2011

High school students will learn the art of running a business from the University of North Carolina Wilmington's Entrepreneurship Center during the week of June 20-24 in the Computer Information Systems building. Students will showcase their personal business plans to parents on 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 24 in UNCW's Madeline Suite.

The summer camp, called Enov8t (pronounced "innovate"), is for high school students entering grades 10-12. The program is geared toward teaching teens how to start a small business. Students will gain skills that can help them in all aspects of life, including public speaking, budgeting and time management. UNC Wilmington students and local business owners will work one-on-one with the high school students on their personal business plans.

Jonathan Rowe, director of the UNCW Entrepreneurship Center, said, "Enov8t teaches students the basics of starting a business as well as leadership and team building skills, while helping to prepare them for college."

Media are invited to cover the business plan showcase June 24 and other visual opportunities throughout the week by request.
