Move-In 2011: More Than 1,700 Volunteers to Welcome New UNCW Students Home Aug. 20
Wednesday, August 17, 2011
More than 1,700 volunteers dressed in teal will help new students move into University of North Carolina Wilmington 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at various residence halls. Thousands of new UNC Wilmington students and parents will be met with cheers and helping hands at this long-standing UNCWelcome Move-In tradition.
Volunteers from the campus and Wilmington community will swarm cars as they pull up to help students carry their belongings into their new homes. UNCW has been featured in the Chronicle of Higher Education and other prominent publications for the unique nature of its Move-In tradition.
UNCW is welcoming approximately 1,990 freshman to their new home for the fall 2011 semester. More than 4,200 students will be housed on campus -- approximately 40 percent of UNCW's student population. National research has shown that living on campus greatly contributes to the academic and social success of students.
Media will have access to interviews with students, parents and volunteers the morning of Move-In by request.
