Mayor Bill Saffo to Kick-Off Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month at UNCW Sept. 15

Mayor Bill Saffo will make Wilmington's official proclamation of National Hispanic Heritage Month at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 at the University of North Carolina Wilmington's amphitheater outside of the Fisher Student Center.

The Wilmington mayor will kick-off a Hispanic heritage celebration that will include festive food, music, cultural displays and more. Organized by UNC Wilmington's Centro Hispano, the event will be held 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Students will bring traditional dishes from their native homes to share with students, faculty, staff and members of the community. Peruvian guitarist Ted Ortiz will perform festive music throughout the afternoon and the student Latin dance group Ritmo Latino will perform.
