High School Students From Across the Country to Spread their Wings at UNCW Oct. 22
Friday, October 21, 2011
Flocks of students will head southeast for Seahawk Saturday, the University of North Carolina Wilmington's Fall Open House, on Saturday, Oct. 22. Chancellor Gary Miller will welcome about 2,000 high school seniors and their families from across the United States at 9 a.m. Check-in will be in Trask Coliseum beginning at 8 a.m.
Seahawk Saturday is a way for potential students to visualize themselves on campus and meet faculty and staff firsthand. Families are invited to participate in activities and information sessions to learn about the diverse programs and services at UNC Wilmington.
"This event gives us the opportunity to meet with our prospective students, see where they come from and learn what their interests are," said Hannah Brown, assistant director of freshman admissions.
Current UNCW students will share their first-year experiences. An academic and student services fair will provide students with information about majors, classes and resources available at UNCW. The formal program will end at 1:15 p.m. At this time, guests may attend some or all of the optional sessions, including campus and residence hall tours, financial aid information, a diversity resource fair and College of Honors Scholars open house.
"Students and their families want to experience the community too," said Brown. "For this reason, UNCW has worked with some of the local restaurants and attractions to offer discounts to our visitors."
Many students and their families stay the entire weekend, adding life to the city and its economy.
Students who plan to attend must have or create a SeaLevel account and register for the event in order to attend. Please visit uncw.edu/admissions/ss.html for registration directions.
