New Orleans Lunch to Jazz Up UNCW in Remembrance of Hurricane Katrina TODAY

Thursday, October 20, 2011

Students, faculty and staff will remember Hurricane Katrina through traditional bayou food, music and festivities at a special New Orleans lunch 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. TODAY Thursday, Oct. 20 in the Wagoner Dining Hall. The festive University of North Carolina Wilmington lunch is part of a large series of activities designed to promote the campus Synergy Common Reading book, Zeitoun.

The UNC Wilmington Synergy Common Reading Program helps build community and conversation by encouraging the whole campus to read one book together. This year's book selection, Zeitoun, by Dave Eggers, is a novel about a prosperous Syrian-American who chose to stay in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina that highlights issues of injustice and social responsibility.

Media are encouraged to capture video and photos at the event by request.
