UNC Wilmington Chancellor Gary Miller to Serve on National Economic Development Committee

Gary L. Miller, chancellor of the University of North Carolina Wilmington, has been appointed a member of the Committee on Economic and Workforce Development by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU).The Committee on Economic and Workforce Development helps AASCU institutions enhance the scope and visibility of economic and workforce development efforts in partnership with their communities and regions. Appointed to a three-year term beginning this month, Miller will be one of 25 presidents and chancellors working with this group.
“I am very excited to be working with this distinguished group of national higher education leaders, and to focus our attention on this important topic,” said Miller. “Economic and workforce development is critical to the future economic viability and success of our communities, our states and our nation. Universities should be the catalyst for future economic development, leading the way through innovative ideas and community partnerships.”
Miller, who became UNC Wilmington’s chancellor in July 2011, was previously provost and vice president of academic affairs at Wichita State University.
AASCU is a Washington-based higher education association of nearly 420 American public colleges, universities and systems. Presidents and chancellors are the designated institutional representatives to the association and their work on various AASCU committees and task forces helps the advance the association’s work on behalf of state colleges and universities at the national level.
