Wilmington Banker C. Phillip Marion Jr. Appointed to UNC Wilmington Board of Trustees

C. Phillip Marion Jr., senior vice president and area executive for BB&T Bank, has been named to the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina Wilmington.Marion was sworn in today as the board's newest member at its October meeting on the UNCW campus. Appointed by Gov. Beverly Perdue, his term will expire in 2015.
A native of Greensboro, N.C, Marion has more than 30 years banking experience with BB&T with responsibilities for marketing, administrative leadership, leadership development and business development. He has a long history of community service in the Cape Fear Area, as an active board member of Cape Fear Council of Boy Scouts of America, past board member of Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce and Wilmington Industrial Development Corp. and past board chair for Cape Fear Area United Way.
Marion's previous association with UNC Wilmington has included serving as a member of UNCW's Board of Visitors and as past chair of finance for the university's Foundation Board.
"I am humbled and honored that the governor chose me to help serve the students, faculty and staff of UNCW as a trustee," Marion said of the appointment. "UNCW is one of the sparks needed to keep our economy strong and vibrant here in Southeastern North Carolina."
Marion holds a bachelors degree in business from East Carolina University and is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University. He is married to Sarah Floyd Marion and resides in Wilmington.
