Military to Be Honored at UNCW Veterans Day Ceremony Nov. 11
Tuesday, November 08, 2011
Although World War I officially ended June 28, 1919, the fighting did not cease until Nov. 11. At the same hour of that cease fire, 11 a.m., the University of North Carolina Wilmington will honor those who have fought for the United States throughout the years with a Veterans Day Ceremony Friday, Nov. 11 at the Campus Commons Amphitheatre.
Lt. Col. Nicholas Davis of the Wounded Warrior Battalion will provide the keynote address. UNC Wilmington students will discuss how the sacrifice of soldiers has impacted them.
"It is important for the veteran population to understand how deeply others feel about them," said UNCW Student Veterans Organization president Cody Hoyt. "Hearing that others appreciate your sacrifice goes a long way for most veterans."
A moment of silence will be held to honor of all the nation's fallen veterans. The UNCW Chamber Choir will perform "America the Beautiful." The event will be followed by a concert with the band Elation from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
