All Clear Given. Students and Others May Now Move about Freely on Campus

Posted at 11:40 p.m. EST on Sat., Dec 3, 2011: All clear. Students and other individuals on campus can now move about freely. It appears that the man reported with a rifle near Carleton Place was a resident of the area returning from a hunting trip and bringing a shotgun into his home to secure it. Both the Wilmington Police Department and UNCW Police investigated the incident and interviewed the hunter to be certain that the incident was resolved and the campus was safe. UNCW Police presence on campus was increased during the incident but will return to normal levels shortly. As always, members of the campus community are encouraged to report any suspicious activity on or near the campus to police in order to ensure the continued safety of students, faculty, staff and campus neighbors.Posted at 11:10 p.m. EST: Continue to follow the below instructions until an all clear is announced.
