An estimated 500 students will suit up to meet employers at the University of North Carolina Wilmington's spring Internship and Job Fair from noon to 3 p.m, Wednesday, Feb. 22 in the Burney Center.

At around 10 percent, the unemployment is rate steadily improving, and UNCW Career Center is hopeful that there will be a brighter outlook for students at this semester's fair.

Fifty companies from a wide variety of industries including finance, healthcare, education, law enforcement, media and retail will be recruiting at the event. The UNCW Career Center has worked diligently to enlist high profile companies such as Sherwin-Williams, Target, The American Red Cross and BB&T.

Students who attend the fair will receive a free professional headshot to use for professional networking on their social media accounts.

Career Center experts suggest Five Tips for Networking at events:

  • Maintain an open posture
  • Be careful of unconscious gestures - fidgeting, playing with hands, touching your face
  • Keep your facial expressions  open by smiling when appropriate; avoid frowning
  • Maintain eye contact when talking or listening; avoid staring
  • Ask questions about their work, how they got their position, what they like best about their career, etc.
