Healthcare researchers and professionals are encouraged to attend the 20th Annual Nursing Research Day April 12-13 in McNeil Hall at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. The focus of this event is "Research and Quality Improvements to Promote Health in Vulnerable Populations." Registration ends April 1.

The goal of the conference is to bring experienced and novice researchers together to share nursing research across care settings. Daily schedules and other details can be found at www.uncw.edu/son.

The keynote speaker will be Norma G. Cuellar, a professor in the Capstone College of Nursing at the University of Alabama. Her clinical background includes work in coronary care, intensive care, home health, prison health, school health and long-term care. Cuellar has taught at a variety of higher education nursing programs and is highly sought out as a speaker on complementary and alternative health care in vulnerable populations, including minorities, older adults and rural populations.

Cuellar's address will be followed by poster sessions and presentations by nurses and other health care professionals who have submitted abstracts of their research. All submissions must be approved by the Institutional Review Board and should emphasize evidence based research and scholarly projects that reflect innovative approaches to improve healthcare outcomes.

Research Day is sponsored by Nu Omega Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, UNCW School of Nursing and New Hanover Regional Medical Center. This event is also part of Chancellor Miller's Installation celebrating UNC Wilmington.

This event is one of more than 40 that are planned throughout the month of April in honor of the installation of UNCW Chancellor Gary L. Miller, who will be officially installed as the fourth chancellor of UNCW on April 20. Installation events showcase the diverse extent of teaching, research and service underway at UNCW, with involvement by numerous students, faculty and staff members.
