UNC Wilmington Surf Team Wins 4th East Coast Championship; Will Go to Nationals June 14

For the fourth consecutive year, the University of North Carolina Wilmington Surf Club team took first place in the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) East Coast Championships.

The team beat Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) by a score of 118-79 for the top title at the championship last week in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. In the individual events, UNCW team members placed in three of the six top slots in the men's shortboard division, first in the men's longboard division and third in the women's shortboard final.

The team will travel to Dana Point, Calif. to compete in the NSSA National Interscholastic Championships June 14-17. In past years, the team has finished 2nd, 4th and 3rd place in the national competition, a rare feat for an East Coast surf team.
