Wilmington, N.C. - Jackie Spinner, author of Tell Them I Didn't Cry:  A Young Journalist's Story of Joy, Loss and Survival in Iraq and co-director of the art exhibit, "Conflict Zone," will visit UNC Wilmington for two special events on Friday, Sep. 28.

The first event, "We're Already There:  Women Correspondents on the Front Line of Battle," will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 28 in Morton Hall, Room 100.  It will consist of a lecture given by Spinner, followed by a book signing for her memoir, Tell Them I Didn't Cry:  A Young Journalist's Story of Joy, Loss and Survival in Iraq. She will share her experiences-including some from her book-as a combat journalist, as well as those of other female war journalists.

The closing reception of the exhibit, "Conflict Zone," will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 28 in the Warwick Center Lobby.  During the reception, Jackie Spinner will give a presentation about the project and discuss its importance.  This exhibit features photographs taken from "U.S. Army photographers and some of the biggest names in combat journalism," according to Spinner.

Many have seen and have been affected by these photographs. The president of UNC Wilmington's Student Veterans Organization, Nathan Hupman, said, "These photos capture aspects of war that many don't think about or don't know about-the military and civilian aspects of war."

These events are co-sponsored by the Association for Campus Entertainment, the PERCH, Student Veterans Organization, LGBTQIA Resource Office and the Women's Resource Center, and are open to the public.  For more information please visit http://uncw.edu/commonreading/events.html.
