UNCW Named to Top 5 Public Regional Universities in the South by U.S. News and World Reports

Wilmington, N.C. - The University of North Carolina Wilmington is recognized as one of the five best public master's university in the South, according to the 2013 U.S. News & World Report rankings for regional universities. UNCW is among a very select group of universities that has sustained a rank in the top 10 for the last 15 years.

"UNCW continues to merit high national rankings because of the quality of our students, faculty and staff, and the depth of our commitment to the journey of learning," said UNCW Chancellor Gary L. Miller. "The educational experience at UNCW thrives on the strength of our ideas and innovation. Our dedication to our place as North Carolina's coastal university, and our active involvement in the community, further enhances the learning opportunities at UNCW."

UNC Wilmington tied with Union University in Jackson, Tenn., for 14th place among public and private universities in the South. The university ranked 6th among "up-and-coming" schools, selected for
"making the most promising and innovative changes in the areas of academic, faculty and student life," according to U.S. News.

In addition, UNCW's Cameron School of Business ranks first on a national list compiled by U.S. News and World Report that measures the average debt load among MBA program graduates.

UNCW has become recognized as a place of destination for high-achieving high school students.. Currently, UNCW has achieved the second highest four-year graduation rate in the UNC system. For fall 2012, 92 percent of entering freshmen identified UNCW as their first choice. The Class of 2016, with about 2050 students, has an estimated average SAT score of 1173 and an estimated average high school GPA of 3.99. Twenty-nine percent of these students graduated in the top 10 percent of their high school class.

The freshmen class came to UNCW from 91 of North Carolina's 100 counties, 41 states and 27 nations of citizenship.
