Members of Bearfoot Band

Friday, March 08, 2013

UNCW Presents welcomes the signature harmonic sound of post-bluegrass band Bearfoot to Kenan Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14.  The band was formed in Cordova, Alaska when the members met as counselors at the Bluegrass and Old-Time Music and Dance Camp in the summer of 1999.  Two years later, they made history by becoming the first Alaskan band ever to win the Telluride Bluegrass band contest, joining the ranks of such reputable artists as Nickel Creek and The Dixie Chicks.

Bearfoot is one of the leading young bands reshaping American roots music. Drawing from a broad range of musical styles including bluegrass, old-time, folk, country, Cajun, blues and western swing, the female-fronted quartet delivers a powerful live show that features winningly intimate lead vocals, intricate arrangements of award-winning original songs, tight harmonies and impressive instrumental prowess.

Their 2009 release Doors and Windows debuted at #1 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart. A music video for “Tell Me a Story,” from American Story, their 2011 release, reached #2 three weeks in a row on CMT’s Pure Music Video Channel.

In addition to their stage performance, Bearfoot will provide a sneak preview performance on the afternoon of March 14. For more information, please visit www.uncw.edu/presents
