Film Showing in Lumina Theater as Part of Social Work Month

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

“I Am” will be shown at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 25 in Lumina Theater. The film chronicles the journey of Sonali Gulati, an Indian lesbian filmmaker, who returns to Delhi from the U.S. to re-visit what was once home and confront the loss of her mother to whom she had never come out.

As she meets and speaks to parents of other homosexuals, she pieces together the fabric of what family truly means. This free event is part of National Social Work Month and is being supported by the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) Cultural Arts Fund. It is being co-sponsored by the UNCW Schools of Social Work, Nursing, Health and Applied Human Sciences, as well as the Department of Film Studies and the LGBTQIA Resource Office. The filmmaker will answer questions after the showing.
