FROM: Dr. Terrence Curran, Associate Provost for Enrollment Management
RE: Organizational Announcement
As you may know, the Director of Admissions position became vacant with the retirement of Jan Rockwell in February, and the University Registrar position became vacant with the retirement of Gil Bowen in March. Over the course of the spring semester, a search was initiated to fill each of these crucial administrative positions. Upon completion of the search processes, I am pleased to announce two significant director appointments in enrollment management within the Division of Academic Affairs.
The Director of Admissions position was accepted by Mr. Marcio Moreno, effective April 1, 2013. Mr. Moreno has served the University of North Carolina Wilmington in the Office of Admissions since 2005. He has been the Associate Director since 2008, after having served for two years as the Assistant Director. Mr. Moreno came to UNCW with previous admissions experience at Fayetteville State University. He has also been a part-time instructor in Spanish for the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. Marcio earned a B.A. and M.A. in English from the Universidad Autonoma de Chiriqui and a M.A. in Spanish and Certificate in Hispanic Studies from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Marcio is originally from Panama and became a United States citizen in 2012.
The University Registrar position was accepted by Mr. John Reece, effective April 1, 2013. Mr. Reece has served the University of North Carolina Wilmington in the Office of the Registrar since 2008. He has previously served as Director of Admissions at Lander University and Newberry College. He began his professional career as an Admission Counselor at the University of South Carolina. John earned a B.A. in English Education and M.Ed. in Student Personnel Services from the University of South Carolina. He is well known for his work with the Carolinas Association of Collegiate Registrar’s and Admission Officers (CACROA) having served as President in 2012.
I am extremely excited to promote these individuals to the director level given their unique qualities, talent and years of dedicated service to UNCW. Both have earned this opportunity and rose to these positions through a competitive search process. I am confident that with their leadership and skill we will continue to build upon the successes we have experienced over the last decade.
