UNCW's McNamara Publishes Article in Nature Climate Change
Monday, June 10, 2013
Dylan McNamara, assistant professor of physics and physical oceanography, has co-authored an article in Nature Climate Change with Andrew Keeler, ECU economics professor and head of Coastal Public Policy Program and Coastal Sustainability at the UNC Coastal Studies Institute.
The article focuses on the "precarious configuration of coastal communities" up and down the East Coast, McNamara said, adding, "This topic is directly related to our local area."
The authors evaluate several factors affecting current and future development of barrier islands, including:
- real estate markets
- climate change
- mitigation options
- individual property owners' risk tolerance
- and property owners' belief in climate computer modeling of potential outcomes.
