Bobby Miller Named Interim Chief Information Officer

Message from Provost Battles:

Dear UNCW Colleagues,
I am writing in regard to the impending transition in the leadership role of Information Technology Systems (ITS), as Leah Kraus assumes her new role at North Carolina Central University. I am delighted to announce that Bobby Miller will assume the role of Interim Chief Information Officer, effective February 1, 2014.

Many of you know Bobby from his lengthy and distinguished service at UNCW. A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill with a BS in Mathematics, he joined UNCW in 1978 as a programmer. He tells me that, at that time, the Computing Center was equipped solely with a remote card reader and a line printer connected via phone lines to a mainframe computer located in the Research Triangle and shared by multiple universities. Bobby played a major role in the evolution of computing at our institution, from the installation of the very first computers on campus to UNCW becoming one of the premier IT organizations in the UNC system. He held a wide variety of manager/director positions throughout his career, culminating in his 2004 appointment as the Associate Vice Chancellor for the Information Technology Systems Division. Although he retired from UNCW in December 2010, our institution has benefitted through his regular involvement with ITS, making valued contributions to multiple special projects.

I hope you will join me in congratulating Bobby Miller on his appointment to this key leadership position. I look forward to working with him in his new role.
