Tuesday, August 05, 2014

The staff of UNCW William Madison Randall Library was honored by the N.C. Coastal Federation with a 2014 Pelican Award. The Pelican Awards annually recognize individuals, businesses, non-profit groups, local and state governments and educators who have demonstrated exemplary commitment and undertaken meaningful actions to protect and improve environmental quality on the N.C. coast.

Randall staff members were recognized for cataloging the federation’s collection of documents and making them accessible as a permanent coastal education resource.

The Coastal Federation digital archive site was set up by Randall Library Special Collections. The materials cover the activities of the organization from 1982 to 2004.

Numerous students, former staff member Debbie Edwards and current staff member Rebecca Baugnon helped process the collection, which will continue to grow.

The 2014 honorees received the awards on Aug. 2 at a luncheon at the N.C. Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores in Carteret County. Gerald Parnell, special collections coordinator, accepted the award on behalf of the library.
