“Sometimes art achieves what therapy, medicine, or the best care of health professionals cannot. Sometimes art even achieves something that’s beyond the best intentions of the artist. These moments can feel like little miracles when they happen, but they are usually instances of art functioning as it normally does: inspiring motivation, engaging parts of people’s bodies or brains that they haven’t been using, or allowing them to transcend their environments for a little while.”
– Liz Lerman, Founding Artistic Director, Dance Exchange

Dance Exchange:
Tools for Health Arts Integration Workshop
Sponsored by the UNCW College of Health & Human Services
Fri., Apr. 27 & Sat., Apr. 28, 2012 | 10am - 5pm
McNeill Hall & Trinity Grove (631 Junction Creek Dr)
The UNCW College of Health & Human Services, in partnership with the Office of Cultural Arts, presents a two-day workshop for CHHS students, faculty, artists and professional health care colleagues. Conducted by the internationally-acclaimed Dance Exchange, as part of the MetLife Healthy Living Initiative, the workshop prepares participants to use simple yet effective artistic tools to enhance their professional and clinical work.
Whether new to the arts or looking to expand your creative skill set in patient care settings, the workshop provides innovative movement-based artistic practices to assist in achieving clinical goals. The workshop engages students and professionals in participatory learning through experiential activities and model teaching, and clinical experience with residents at Trinity Grove, a local non-profit nursing home. Through classroom study and field experience, participants learn techniques and build skills that can be applied immediately to health care environments.
Lunch provided for confirmed workshop participants on Friday and Saturday.
