Community Services Division

The Community Services Division is responsible for the Department’s advanced policing activities. The Division consists of a Captain, two Lieutenants, eight Telecommunicators, and full and part-time Security Guards. The responsibilities of the Community Services Division include special event planning and security, records administration and reporting compliance, community policing and crime prevention initiatives, crisis negotiators, RAD self-defense classes, accreditation oversight, research and development, crime interdiction, victim rights, and departmental liaison to various on and off campus working groups and committees.

The Department’s telecommunicators work in conjunction with the New Hanover County 911 Center. These experienced professionals support the Patrol Division by monitoring and dispatching law enforcement, fire and EMS units, operating federal, state and local criminal justice databases and documenting departmental activities. The Division also staffs the front desk of the police headquarters to assist community members in accessing departmental services by receiving incoming telephone calls and monitoring alarms and emergency Call Box activations.

The Community Services Division fields a team of highly trained and motivated police officers who deliver a superior police service to the community. Captain C. T. Deacon manages the Community Services Division and may be contacted at (910) 962-2413 or DeaconC@uncw.edu.
